2 oz Whiskey

1 oz lemon juice

.25 oz simple syrup

2 tsp strawberry jam (or any jam in your fridge)

1 dash of orange bitters


Step 1: Fill a shaker with ice and pour in the whiskey, lemon juice, simply syrup, jam, and bitters.

Step 2: Shake for about 15 seconds or until the shaker becomes frosty.

Step 3: Fill a short glass with ice and strain mixture into the glass. Garnish with an orange twist for an extra pop of flavor.

It’s Spring and the weather is starting to slowly warm up. This calls for deliciously refreshing drinks like the Monkey Jam Sour cocktail. This cocktail includes every day ingredients that come together to create a sour and savory taste. The addition of jam in this drink threw me off for a bit as I haven’t seen that as an ingredient in a cocktail yet. However, when its shaken and mixed in with the other ingredients, it is complimented perfectly.

I’ve also never used orange bitters before since the most common combination with whiskey has been angostura bitters. But, I was pleasantly surprised with how fresh just one dash of orange bitters could make the whole cocktail taste. The Monkey Jam Sour cocktail does indeed have a sour taste but only because of the acidity in the lemon and the orange. When you mix this with the bitter whiskey, it creates a crisp yet sweet cocktail that is perfect for warmer days.

Whiskey definitely has the misconception of being a Winter liquor but when you create something like this, it instantly will become a Spring/ Summer favorite. So, try it for yourself and let me know what you think. Cheers!
