2 oz whiskey

2 oz apple cider

1 oz apple cider vinegar

1tsp maple syrup

1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

2 dashes angostura bitters

Orange twist (for garnish)


Step 1: In a cocktail shaker add whiskey, apple cider, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper. Fill the cocktail shaker with ice and shake for about 15 seconds.

Step 2: When the shaker becomes frosty, strain the shaker into a glass with the orange twist.

For a new spin on a classic whiskey recipe, the Retox cocktail is a deliciously sweet drink with a spicy finish. Justin and I decided to do dry January this year and we successfully made it through the entire month. Given our love for whiskey and win, I must say that it wasn’t an easy endeavor. However, we made it through and made some fun mocktails along the way. But, we’re back on the wagon, we’re keeping it classy as always with some new cocktail recipes.

The Retox cocktail is the perfect drink to ease your way back in with. I also chose this one for the “punny” name considering we detoxed for a month, now it’s time for a retox. If you’re a whiskey drinker, you probably don’t like cocktails that are too sweet. This recipe calls for just the right amount of bitter, sweet, and spicy. I have to admit that when I saw cayenne pepper as an ingredient, it made me cringe. But once I tasted it, it completely made sense. At first, the drink is a little sweet on your tongue and even has some sour hints. Then, it finishes with the kick of spicy that is similar to tajin, but just a little more potent.
